Before, During and After Surgery

From the time your surgery is scheduled until after you leave the hospital, Alpha Neuromonitoring is with you the whole way. Our goal is to educate you so you know what to expect from your Neuromonitoring Team throughout the entire process.

Prior to Surgical Procedure

If your surgeon has determined that Intraoperative Neuromonitoring is necessary for your procedure, he/she may begin to educate you on the process and what it will entail. The surgeon’s office will schedule the procedure with our team and we will be available to answer any questions you may have. You may, at any time, contact our team if you have follow-up questions or concerns.

Day of Surgical Procedure

Prior to surgery, you will be greeted and interviewed by your neurophysiologist from the Alpha Neuromonitoring team to explain their role in your surgery. They may take a quick medical history pertaining to current symptoms, perform a physical assessment, and may also ask you to sign a consent form for monitoring services. They will also be available to answer any questions you may have about neuromonitoring during the procedure.

Once sedated, the neurophysiologist will place electrodes on various parts of your body (dependent on procedure).  The electrodes are attached to our advanced monitoring systems, allowing the neurophysiologist to monitor the signals transmitted by your nervous system. Once a pre-operative baseline is established, the information is stored and is used as a guide throughout the surgical proedure.

During your surgery, your surgeon will be provided with the status of your nervous system. If any significant changes are noted, your surgical team will be able to immediately react and take measures to either reverse or mitigate any issues. After the surgery is done, all of the monitoring electrodes will be safely removed and disposed of.

After Surgery

The Neurophysiologist may visit you following the procedure and perform a second physical assessment. They will document your status throughout the procedure, as well as post-operative status, and provide a report to the hospital to be placed in your medical record. An insurance claim form is completed and an invoice is sent to your insurance carrier. We work very hard on your behalf to obtain the best reimbursement results.
